Port Drivers

What is a Port?
The port, see also Interface, is a communications port on a computer for example the serial port, parallel port, USB port or a port on a server. Different ports have different characteristics and data transfer capabilities. The port can refer to either physical or virtual connection points. Physical network ports allow connecting cables to computers, routers, modems and other peripheral devices.

Physical ports include: Ethernet ports, USB ports, Serial ports, Virtual ports, part of TCP/IP networking.

Troubleshoot Port Connection Problems

Issue: You cannot get the Ghost DOS executable file, Ghost.exe, or Ghostpe.exe, to work over a parallel port (LPT) connection. Ghost times out while attempting to connect to the other computer, or Ghost exits to DOS while attempting to connect or while performing the operation.

Possible Solutions:
Step 1: Follow the documented procedure.

Step 2: Upgrade Ghost

Step 3: Wait for Ghost to connect.

Step 4: Start the slave computer first.

Step 5: Change the configuration of the parallel port.

Step 6: Check the cable Step 7 Try a clean boot.

Step 8: Computer clock speed.

The computers need to be as close to the same speed as possible. If one computer is a lot faster than the other one, see if there is a Turbo switch that can be turned off.

Step 9: Change the PnP setting
