What should I do if I got a prompt "RPC service is unavailable" or "background service program error" and failed to install the printer driver?

It will be available for the following printers.
HP LaserJet 1018、HP LaserJet 1020、HP LaserJet 1022、HP LaserJet P1505、HP LaserJet P1007、HP LaserJet P1008、HP LaserJet M1319f、HP LaserJet M1120.

Cause of the installation failure
• Problems in your Windows operating system
• The Print Spooler service on this machine provided by the Windows operating system is disabled.
Caution
Before the operation, you have to close the firewall and antivirus software which will limit the printer program to call System File and results in problems during the installation or usage.
Solution
1. Various operation due to different operating systems：
o In Windows 2000 Pro operating system，click Start→ Settings→ Control Panel.
o In Windows XP/Server 2003 operating system，click Start→ Control Panel.
o In Windows Vista operating system，click Start→Settings→Control Panel.
In this article, we will take Windows Vista operating system as an example so it can be a reference for the other operating system.

1. From Start, put your mouse above Settings and click the Control Panel.


2. Double click the Administrative Tools in the Control Panel as follows:


3. Double click Services in the Administrative Tools as follows


4. Right click Print Spooler in the Services and select the Properties as follows：
Note:The Print Spooler is a required service to call during the process of installation and very essential for the printer operation. If "Print Spooler" can not be found in the list of service, it means that there are problems with your operating system. In this case, you can not install the driver and have to replace or update full version of the operating system if you want to install it.



5. Click the arrow to select Automatic under the Startup type and start the Service Status as follows：
Note: If the “Startup type" and "Service Status" options are not changeable, it means that there are problems with your operating system. In this case, you can not install the driver and have to replace or update full version of the operating system if you want to install it.


After you have done the above, you will be able to install the driver properly.
