I/O Device Error or Device I/O error
An I/O Device Error message is an input or output error that means your computer is not able to read and copy any data, or setup a program from your CD or DVD. This issue is likely to perform as X:// is not accessible and occurred while your Windows is trying to use a transfer mode that your CD/DVD drive cannot recognize
Causes of the Error and the Solutions
1.The CD / DVD is dirty or scratched.
Take out the CD / DVD and check whether it is dirty or scratched on the surface. Use a soft cloth to clean it and try again. Most of the time, you won抰 be able to use it if it is scratched severely.
2. There is something wrong with the drive.
Basically, you can ensure whether the driver is working or not by loading other good CD/DVD you know. If the Windows prompts the error message again, then the drive is possibly need cleaning or repair. You can also try the CD on another computer. If it works, then the problem may be the drive.
3. Loose Cables
Turn off the PC. Look at the wirings and connections of the hard disk and the CD. Remove both and reconnect them. Open the PC and try copying the files again.
4. Incorrect Transfer Mode
The removable drive doesn't recognize the copy / transfer method the OS is using. To resolve this issue, you will need to change the transfer mode in your IDE channel properties.

Step1. Click the Start button and open My Computer.
Step2. Select "Manage" and choose Device Manager from the selection.
Step3.Look for the CD or DVD drive in the ATA/ATAPI list. Click the plus sign if needed to expand the selection.
Step3. Identify your CD/DVD drive in the expanded menu (this will be device 1)and right click it to select Properties.
Step4. Go to "Advanced Settings" and choose "Transfer Mode". Choose "PIO Only". Click OK and return to the main screen.
Step5. Reboot the system.
If the above steps do not resolve your issue, you can go back to the drive properties and choose 揇MA if available?for device1. Then, change Device 0 to "PIO Only" and reboot the computer. Your device should work properly now.
5. Outdated CD Driver
Windows cannot recognize the hardware if the driver may be old, corrupted or missing.
Reinstall or update the drivers for this device.
Uninstall the driver from Device Manager, and then scan for new hardware to install the driver again.
You may have to do the installation manually if you still have the driver files, due to the New Hardware Wizard may ask for the driver sometimes. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware manufacturer's Web site.

If you can not download the file from the website, try a third party driver update tool which can help solve the driver issue automatically.
