Realtek AC'97 Problems of Windows XP/ Vista
- You may have another audio device in your computer and have not installed the properly driver. You should install a specific driver for the device if you can find it out, or just remove it from your machine.
- The new installed network card or other device is incompatible with the sound card.
- The installation of a new Direct X can cause the malfunctions of the audio device. You have to update the Realtek AC'97 Audio driver or roll back your Direct X.
- You tested the sound with the direct x diagnostic tool and the test was successful but said "your sound card does not support hardware buffering. Sounds will only play back form software buffers." You know there was an acceleration control in the direct X diagnostic and it was set at the lowest setting. Change it to standard or the highest setting and problems will be solved.
- Sound card does not work properly after overclocking. So try to work in the standard frequency.
- The sound card is masked from the BIOS. You can fix it by selecting Enable or Auto.
